I treat substance use disorders including alcohol, amphetamines, and cocaine. However, addiction to pain killers represent the overwhelming majority of my addiction services.
Addiction to pain killers (opioids) is a chronic disease characterized by frequent relapses. The centerpiece of treatment is to eliminate the cravings and the painful withdrawal allowing you to think and function normally. Once this has been achieved, then with psychosocial counseling, you can learn to address the stressors that caused you to misuse opioids (hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, fentanyl, oxycontin, methadone, morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.) or kratom.
Suboxone® (buprenorphine and naloxone) is one of two drugs approved by the FDA to treat opioid addiction. The other is methadone. Opioids attach to receptors in the brain and spinal cord with three main effects: reduced respiration, euphoria,
and decreased pain. The more opioids you take the more of an effect you receive. When you stop opioids, the opposite occurs; cravings, pain, depression, and jitteriness.Suboxone® binds to the same opioid receptors without producing the euphoria while having a milder respiratory and pain relieving effect. The binding tricks the receptors into thinking that it is receiving opioids. In fact, Suboxone® binds so strongly to the receptors that it will displace the other opioids. This exceptionally strong binding ability prevents other opioids from binding. With this characteristic, effects can last up to 3 days, you receive relief long enough to function with your life.
I offer a 7 day, 30 day, 90 day detox and a longer Suboxone® maintenance period. That decision can be made after performing a history, physical, blood work, drug screening, and counseling to determine what would work best for you.
Once you call me at (918) 518-1636, we will make a plan to treat you on an outpatient basis that is individualized for you and moves at a pace that is comfortable for you.
Each patient is unique and treatment must be individualized. Your care will be designed for you with the goals to get you off of the drugs that you are addicted to and get you to recovery. The treatment is successful when you can return to a life that is happy and fulfilling again.
I make use of additional medications such as gabapentin, memantine, amitriptyline, and clonidine to minimize the amount of Suboxone you need and devise the fastest, easiest and cheapest treatment to give you control of your life.
Treatment is provided with compassion, dignity, and confidentiality. I don’t judge, I listen.
